For parents
Junior boxing kit
Boxing gloves, hand wraps and headguards in the sizes that fit children, with a size guide by age and the safety checklist we would use ourselves. A child starting boxing in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or anywhere in the UAE needs very little kit, as long as it fits.
FYYTR began with two parents. The first FYYTR gloves and headguard were made for our daughters' first fight, by parents who refused to compromise on their children's safety. Read our story.

What a child needs
For the first months: hand wraps and a pair of small training gloves. A headguard only when the coach starts supervised sparring. Gloves with wraps, or gloves with a headguard, bought together save AED 10 at checkout.

From the first class
FYYTR Laaf Hand Wraps
Junior size: 250 cm - AED 49
The shorter length made for smaller hands. Wraps support the knuckles and wrist under the glove, and every child should have their own pair.

From the first class
Haawi H-1 Everyday Training Boxing Gloves
Junior size: 8 oz - AED 249
Fits most children from about eight to twelve for bag and pad work. It should close snugly over wraps without the fingers pressing into the end.

When sparring starts
Mulakim M-1 Premium Leather Full Protection Headguard
Junior size: S - AED 399
Genuine leather with cheek protection, for when a coach moves a child into supervised sparring.

When sparring starts
Mulakim M-1 Premium Leather Open Face Headguard
Junior size: S/M - AED 379
Open face for a wider view in technical sparring, with padding at the forehead, sides and back.
Junior size guide
| Kit | Junior size | Fit |
|---|---|---|
| Gloves | 8 oz Haawi H-1 | Most children from about eight to twelve. For younger children, ask the club which weight its junior classes use. |
| Hand wraps | 250 cm Laaf | The length for small hands. Adult 450 cm wraps leave a child's hand too bulky for the glove. |
| Headguard | S (Shield) or S/M (open face) | Only once sparring starts. Measure around the head just above the eyebrows; it should sit firm and leave the eyes clear. |

Choosing a junior class: a checklist
- A low ratio of children to coaches, and a coach who stops a drill the moment technique breaks down.
- Groups matched by size and age, not by age alone.
- No contact to the head for young beginners: skipping, footwork, shadow boxing and pad work.
- A clear answer to when sparring is introduced. A club that cannot give one is not the right club.
- Kit that fits: wraps of the right length, gloves that close snugly and, once sparring starts, a fitted headguard.

Questions parents ask
What age can kids start boxing in the UAE?
Many clubs in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah accept children from around six or seven for movement and technique classes. Contact sparring usually comes years later and only under close supervision. Ask each club for its own age policy.
What size boxing gloves does my child need?
Many children from about eight to twelve fit an 8 oz glove, such as the 8 oz Haawi H-1. Younger children often use a lighter glove, so ask the club what its junior classes use.
What boxing kit does a child need to start?
For the first months, a pair of hand wraps and a pair of small training gloves, and nothing else. A headguard comes in only when the coach starts supervised sparring.
Does my child need a headguard for boxing?
Not for technique classes, where there is no contact to the head. Once a child starts any form of sparring, a properly fitted headguard is essential and most clubs make it mandatory.
Is boxing safe for children?
In a well-run junior class the risks look much more like any other sport than like a fight: young beginners take no punches to the head, and safety comes from supervision, sensible matching by size and age, and well-fitted kit.
